What is a Tapenade?

A Tapenade is a fancy French word for a spread that is typically made from olives and sometimes other ingredients like anchovies and capers. Since this is a vegan recipe, we don’t use the anchovies.

Are Olives Vegan?

Since they are the main ingredient in this vegan spread, you can be assured they are.  Remember, olives are technically a fruit, and grow on a tree.

The ingredients are:

  • Black Olives
  • Parsley
  • Lemon Juice
  • Olive Oil

That’s it.  We can thank our friend the Vitamix for the creaminess, but any blender or food processor will do.  This Vitamix olive tapenade just dirties a single container for easy cleanup!

How to Make Vegan Olive Tapenade

  1. Open cans of olives and drain.
  2. Place olives in a Vitamix container or other blender/food processor container.
  3. Wash and separate the parsley leaves from the stems. You are looking for one packed cup of parsley leaves.
  4. Add parsley to Vitamix.
  5. Wash and juice one lemon, and add to Vitamix.
  6. Add 1/4 cup of olive oil to the container.
  7. Close the container and blend on low, gradually increasing to high. You may have to use a tamper or stop and stir the contents of the container.
  8. Once the ingredients are incorporated, blend on high for one minute.

Storage

Place your leftover tapenade in an airtight container and place it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. it’s really easy to make this easy vegan olive tapenade recipe.
