I have been a loyal air fryer user for well over two years.
When I say loyal, I mean loyal. I use my air fryer every day at least once.
I’ve put just about anything in there, and I have learned quite a bit of things along the way.
Today I want to share my favorite air fryer chicken thigh recipe.
These air fryer chicken thighs are so juicy and delicious. The skin gets nice and crispy, and a quick marinade in my red wine vinegar chicken marinade with lemon keeps them flavorful.
You only need to marinade them for 20 minutes. Why? The secret is in the marinade which is full of acid like lemon juice and red wine vinegar. These acids do their work super fast!
Why Air Fry Chicken Thighs?
Besides the answer of, well, because we can there’s another really important reason why you would air fry chicken thighs.
Tonight, I made four chicken things in my air fryer with the skin on.
When I was done cooking them, there was over 1/4 cup of grease at the bottom of my air fryer.
Grease you would otherwise be eating. Yuck.
I was going to post a picture of the inside of my air fryer after I made chicken thighs, but it was too gross.
So I settled for pouring it out into that measuring cup instead. That wasn’t even everything! There was still another layer of grease.
The air fryer is great because we get to keep the crispy crunchy delicious skin and make it a little healthier.
It is a win win situation.
There are a couple of tricks for cooking something greasy like skin on chicken in the air fryer though, mainly not to cook it at too high of a temperature.
Otherwise, you’re left with a smokey nightmare.
Cooking your chicken thighs at a lower temperature for slightly longer gives the fat time to render out of the skin, and leaves the skin crispy, while the inside of the chicken thigh stays crispy.
This gives you the perfect air fryer chicken thighs.

Now, onto my favorite air fryer chicken thigh recipe!
- 2 Chicken Thighs, Skin on
- 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice (or the juice of 1/2 of a lemon)
- 1 Tablespoon Red Wine Vinegar
- A sprinkle of oregano
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- Whisk together the lemon juice, red wine vinegar, oregano and olive oil in a small bowl.
- Place chicken thighs in a vessel of your choice and pour marinade over thighs, rubbing them in it.
- Allow chicken thighs to marinade in for 20 minutes in the refrigerator.
- Place chicken thighs in basket of a COLD air fryer.
- Cook at 300 F for 20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 F.
- Remove from air fryer and serve.
These chicken thighs are the pefect balance of juciy meat and crispy skin. This is because we cook them a little longer, at a slightly lower temperature.
Because we are air frying them, the fat will render out of the skin, and not stay in our chicken thighs.
You will be surprised at how much grease will be in your air fryer after you cook them!
