Oatmeal is one of those things that people either love or hate.  I actually used to be more on the hate side of things until I figured out how to make brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal in my Instant Pot.

For me, my dislike of oatmeal was all about texture.  I was also used to those little packets of instant oatmeal that are just plain blah.

what should I put in my oatmeal

This easy brown sugar oatmeal recipe is nothing like the stuff out of a packet, or even making oatmeal on the stove.

I think the secret is simply the magic of the Instant Pot.  The steam really plumps up those oats, and gives them a wonderful texture.

How to make homemade maple brown sugar oatmeal

When we think of classic oatmeal, we often think of things like maple, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

This recipe makes it easy to incorporate all of those items, but can be tweaked to your tastes very easily.

First, add your gluten free rolled oats to your Instant Pot.  Then add your brown sugar, and maple syrup, and cinnamon if you plan on using all three of these items.

Then, add water and stir well.  Stirring is essential here!

Finally, just set your Instant Pot to a mere 6 minutes and walk away.  After it has finished, let the pressure naturally release so those oats can really plump up.  This can take anywhere from 20-30 minutes.

You can also add a bit of maple syrup to your oatmeal after you have cooked it if you are looking for a little added sweetness.

Brown sugar is key with oatmeal, they just go together so well. Maple syrup is a nice addition, but not strictly necessary. Feel free to experiment with how much you add, if you add any.

Cinnamon of course is just perfect with oatmeal, and don't forget that bit of salt to really bring the flavors together.
